The Nursery Day

This is our usual full day care timetable. There are times when we have to change times of activities, but the times of starting and finishing Nursery each day are the same, unless we have notified parents of other arrangements:

Open - 9:30 Arrival and free play.

9:30 - 10:00 Staff-directed activity from the learning areas

10:00 - 10:15 Tea time.

10:15 - 11:00 Group activities from the learning areas. Staff directs small groups to work in certain learning areas (this encourages the children to share, to work together, and also help them form friendships).

11:00 - 11:30 Circle time. This can be a time to sit and share thoughts, finger plays, stories, and music.

11:30 - 12:00 Outside time. If weather is inclement, exercise time. Otherwise, music/rainy day activities time.

12:00 - 12:30 Lunch.

12:30 - 12:45 Clean-up.

12:45 - 2:45 Nap/Quiet time.

2:45 - 3:00 Tea time.

3:00 - 4:00 Outside time. If weather is inclement, exercise time. Otherwise, music/rainy day activities time.

4:00 - 5.00 Free choice activities from the learning areas/homework

5:00 - 6:00 Free play and departure.

Lunchtime and Playtime

At playtime, children are supervised by staff. If it is raining, the children stay indoors where there is a supply of games and rainy day activities. If for some reason your child is unable to go out to play, please tell the staff and your child will then be supervised indoors.

Lunchtime is a social event at New Era Nursery and staff  dine with children. A balanced diet is prepared for the staff and children; and a sample of the month's menu is displayed on the notices area of the Nursery. Please advise us if your child has any special dietary requirements.

The Environment
Our Nursery is a modern, bright, purpose-built building. We have nursery area, play school area, outdoor play area, quiet area, store, office and kitchen. There are separate cloakrooms and sink areas for children and staff. We have well equipped areas where we store curriculum/play materials when not in use and we have a central suite where children can play with educational computers.

Our active play area is the back garden. We are very proud of the facilities here: Toys, tunnels,  cars, picnic tables etc. We aim to provide a mini amusement park for the children daily.

Additional Activities

These may include drama, indoor and outdoor games, field trips and a newsletter which contains general information on staff, children and events. During the summer months, the children participate in all day free play activities.

Birthdays are celebrated with a small party. Food for this is supplied by the Nursery and comprises ice cream, popcorn and cake. The birthday child's photograph and work may be exhibited exclusively for that week on the notice board.

Easter and Christmas are always major events for the Nursery. On the Friday before Good Friday or Christmas, the children stage a concert for the parents. This generally takes the form of a little play and singing, after which a party is held and Santa arrives at Christmas to add to the excitement while Easter Eggs are given to children at Easter.
