SAFETY

The Health & Safety of our school children comes first in all we do, hence we adhere to the following;

  • Weekly fire drills during the month of September and monthy thereafter, to ensure that all children and staff are familiar with the procedure for evacuating the building.
  • Parents must not park directly outside the Nursery door as this keeps the pavement clear for children to cross the road.
  • Children enter and leave the school by the front door and not through the side gates.
  • Children must not walk through the front door unless accompanied by parents or Nursery staff, for their own safety and we ask that all parents remind their children of these regulations.
  • Emergency procedure is in place in case of emergencies.

WELFARE

The welfare of the children attending our Nursery is paramount, and parental co-operation is necessary in the following circumstances:

  • Children must not attend the Nursery if they have any infectious illness likely to be transmitted to other children. The Nursery Supervisor's decision must be respected.
  • It is the policy of this Nursery to refer concerns of child safety to the local Health Board.
  • Smoking is not permitted in any area of the Nursery.
  • A routine for personal hygiene is established.
  • Please be punctual in picking up your child.

    ACCIDENTS, ILLNESSES & MEDICAL PROBLEMS

If your child has a slight accident in school, a  staff will attend to him/her. We do not use ointments or lotions, but clean and dress cuts where necessary.
Should the accident require it, parents will be informed, by telephone, note or personally, particularly if there has been a bump on the head or face. More serious accidents do sometimes occur and in these cases, it is vital that we are able to get in touch with parents as soon as possible, so that the child may be taken to hospital. It is therefore most important that you keep the Nursery up to date with any changes in contact and emergency numbers, however temporary.
Should a child become ill at school, we will contact you so that the child can be taken home or to see the Medical Doctor. The child will be kept with the Supervisor while s/he waits. Please inform the Nursery if your child suffers from any specific medical problem so that we can be aware of their special needs.
Key workers of children with asthma who need ventilators, should be made familiar with how to use them and the ventilators will be kept in the office securely until they are needed.

We try to avoid administering any other medicines in the Nursery because of the danger of mistakes. Therefore, a sick child should not attend the Nursery. However, medication will be administered as part of a continuing treatment.
Parents must complete a Consent Form if you expect your child to be given any medication while in the Nursery. The Supervisor will take responsibility for this, to ensure that correct procedure, dosage and timing is followed.

In line with our Health and Safety Policy, children on antibiotics must not attend Nursery for the first 24 hours of treatment.

EQUALITY

Our approach to delivering our services to children is built on the underlying philosophy of our Nursery. As a Nursery based on christian foundations, we have the aim of fostering a community with Christ as its centre. This community requires a commitment to love, understanding, encouragement, support and endeavour. We therefore oppose any form of discrimination on grounds of class, race, gender, religion or ability. Full details of our equality policy is available on site.
